February 12, 2025: In a shocking and tragic incident, the headless body of a newborn was found dumped near the District Women’s Hospital at Lalitpur Medical College on Tuesday. It is suspected that stray dogs mauled the child and devoured its head before passers-by discovered the remains.
According to reports, a pregnant woman, Sangeeta, a resident of Bahadurpur, was admitted to the hospital on February 9, where she gave birth to an underweight baby. Due to the child's fragile condition, it was shifted to the Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU). Unfortunately, the baby did not survive, and the hospital handed over the body to the mother and her family.
However, the family reportedly left the hospital without completing formal discharge procedures. Authorities suspect that they abandoned the newborn’s body near the hospital before fleeing the scene. The gruesome discovery was later made by locals, who immediately alerted the police.
A police team arrived at the location and sent the newborn’s body for post-mortem examination to confirm the details surrounding the incident.
Despite the disturbing nature of the case, Medical College Principal Dr. D. Nath and Chief Medical Officer Dr. Meenakshi Singh have not issued any statements regarding the matter at the time of reporting.
The incident has raised concerns about both hospital protocols for handling deceased infants and the growing menace of stray dogs in the area. Authorities are expected to investigate further.
