IAF Officer Accuses Wing Commander of Rape; FIR Filed in Budgam

September 11, 2024: A serious allegation has surfaced within the Indian Air Force (IAF) as a female flying officer has filed a police complaint accusing a Wing Commander of rape. The complaint, which includes claims of harassment and sexual assault over the past two years, has led to the filing of a First Information Report (FIR) at the Budgam police station.

The complaint details an alleged incident from December 31, 2023, during a New Year party. The officer claims that the Wing Commander invited her to his room under the pretense of delivering a gift. Once inside, she alleges that he forced her into oral sex despite her repeated pleas to stop. The Wing Commander reportedly indicated that they would meet again once his family was away, adding to her distress.

In response to the allegations, the Indian Air Force has assured full cooperation with the investigation. An IAF spokesperson stated, "We are aware of the case. The local police station in Budgam has approached the Indian Air Force in Srinagar regarding this matter, and we are fully cooperating with the local authorities."

Following advice from two female colleagues, the officer chose to file the complaint. She has expressed concerns over the investigation process, alleging that a Colonel-rank officer was appointed to investigate but that the process was flawed. The officer also criticized the presence of the Wing Commander during the investigation sessions, suggesting it was an attempt to obscure administrative issues.
