September 13, 2024: The Assam State School Education Council (ASSEB) was officially inaugurated today, marking a significant milestone in the state's educational landscape. Ramesh Chand Jain was sworn in as the Chairman, and Rukm Gohain Baruah as the Vice-Chairman in a ceremony attended by Education Minister Dr. Ranoj Pegu.
The ASSEB has been established following the dissolution of the previous SEBA and Education Council, in accordance with the National Education Policy. Dr. Pegu highlighted the importance of this transition, describing today as a pivotal moment for the future of school education in Assam.
Dr. Pegu outlined the government's commitment to enhancing skill-based education, aiming to provide practical livelihood skills and revitalize multipurpose secondary education. As part of this initiative, the state plans to expand the number of secondary schools to 6,000, with the tender process already initiated for 372 new schools. The goal is to integrate skills-based learning into the curriculum to better prepare students for future employment opportunities.
In his remarks, Chairman Ramesh Chand Jain expressed his gratitude for the appointment and acknowledged the continued role of the existing boards during the transition. Jain affirmed that the new board would be instrumental in implementing the measures outlined by the National Education Policy, particularly in making the education system more knowledge-based and aligned with skills development.
The establishment of ASSEB represents a major step forward in enhancing educational opportunities in Assam, with a clear goal of fostering self-employment and better preparing students for the workforce through a comprehensive, skills-focused curriculum.
