Hailakandi Fake Birth Certificate Racket Busted, Six Arrested

March 15, 2025: Hailakandi police have arrested six individuals in connection with a large-scale birth certificate fraud. The accused Husain Ahmed Barbhuiya, Sirajul Islam Laskar, Omprakash Singh, Dinesh Kurmi, Brahmananda Kurmi, and Suraj Ravidas were taken into custody last night.

According to police reports, this fraudulent network has been involved in the illegal issuance of fake birth certificates. Investigations have revealed that at least 106 forged birth certificates were created and uploaded to the government portal.

The accused allegedly generated these fake documents from two key medical institutions—S.K. Roy Civil Hospital and Lala Primary Health Center. The police suspect that these certificates were then used to provide individuals with proof of Indian citizenship through unlawful means.

The arrests were made following a complaint filed by the superintendent of S.K. Roy Civil Hospital. The case, registered under number 31/25, led the police to uncover the extent of the scam. Authorities are continuing their investigation to identify any other individuals involved in the operation.

The incident has raised concerns over the misuse of official systems for fraudulent purposes. Law enforcement agencies are now working to ensure stricter measures are in place to prevent such scams in the future.
