Explosions from Hezbollah Pagers Rock Lebanon, Leaving Nine Dead and Thousands Injured

September 18, 2024: A devastating series of explosions linked to pagers used by Hezbollah members has resulted in at least nine fatalities and nearly 3,000 injuries across Lebanon. The blasts began around 3:30 p.m. local time (1230 GMT) in the southern suburbs of Beirut, particularly in Dahiyeh, and the eastern Bekaa Valley, both strongholds of the militant group.

Witnesses reported that the explosions continued for about an hour, with sounds of detonations still heard in Dahiyeh as late as 4:30 p.m. (1730 GMT). Initial investigations indicate that some of the blasts occurred after the pagers rang, prompting fighters and medics to check their devices, leading to the tragic detonations.

Footage from the scene shows chaotic aftermath, with local hospitals inundated with casualties and emergency services working tirelessly to manage the crisis. Blood donation drives have been initiated as medical facilities face overwhelming demand.

While Hezbollah and Lebanese military officials have yet to release a formal statement, early reports suggest the devices may have been tampered with or deliberately rigged to explode.
