February 20, 2025: In a shocking case of planned murder, the Delhi Police have arrested a 19-year-old contract killer who was allegedly hired by a woman to kill her husband. The accused woman, identified as Sarita, had initially filed a missing person complaint in an attempt to mislead the police.
The case unfolded when the Delhi Police discovered an unidentified male body in a rain drain near the FCI godown in North Delhi's Shakti Nagar on February 3. Following a fingerprint analysis, the deceased was identified as Sonu Nagar, a resident of Paharganj with a criminal background. A post-mortem report confirmed that he had been strangled to death.
While the police were investigating the murder, Sarita lodged a missing complaint at the Gulabi Bagh police station, claiming that her husband had been taken away by two unknown men on a motorcycle. However, inconsistencies in her statement raised suspicion, leading to a deeper probe.
A special investigation team (SIT) was formed, which examined CCTV footage, call detail records (CDR), and IPDR data. The analysis revealed the presence of multiple individuals from Punjab near the crime scene before and after the murder. The police also traced several calls between Sarita, her mother, and Punjab-based contacts.
Further investigation led to CCTV footage showing three men, including Sonu, riding a motorcycle towards Shakti Nagar, where his body was later found. Acting on these leads, the police conducted a raid in Punjab’s Muktsar and arrested 19-year-old Bagga Singh. During interrogation, Singh confessed that Sarita had hired him and his accomplice, Gurpreet, to eliminate her husband.
Police sources revealed that Sarita had married Sonu after a previous marriage but wanted to get rid of him due to property disputes. She allegedly conspired with Bagga and Gurpreet to murder Sonu at their residence in Gulabi Bagh before disposing of his body.
While Bagga has been arrested, Gurpreet remains at large. The police have recovered Sonu’s mobile phone and the motorcycle used in the crime from Bagga. A search operation is underway to track down the remaining accused and uncover more details of the conspiracy.
