Delhi CM Rekha Gupta Hits Back at Atishi Over ‘Broken Promise’ Allegation

February 21, 2025: Delhi chief minister Rekha Gupta has strongly refuted allegations made by former CM Atishi, who accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of failing to deliver on their election promises.

Speaking to the media on Friday, CM Gupta lashed out at the opposition, questioning their governance records. “The Congress ruled for 15 years and the AAP ruled for 13. Instead of looking at what they did, how can they raise questions on one day of ours? We had a cabinet meeting on day one, immediately after taking the oath, and we cleared the Ayushman Bharat Yojana, which was blocked by AAP. We gave a benefit of ₹10 lakh to the people of Delhi on the first day,” she stated.

She further criticized the opposition for questioning the BJP’s decisions, asserting, “They don’t have any right to question us... We will worry about Delhi now, and under the leadership of PM Modi, Delhi will get its due rights. They should focus on their own party; many leaders want to leave. They are afraid that when the CAG report is tabled in the House, records of a lot of people will be exposed.”

The remarks came after Atishi released a video accusing the BJP of backtracking on their electoral promise to provide a ₹2,500 monthly allowance to Delhi’s women. “BJP had promised the women of Delhi that in the first cabinet meeting itself, they would pass the scheme. The new CM Rekha Gupta and her ministers took the oath, and in the evening, at 7 pm, the first cabinet meeting took place. All the women of Delhi were expecting the scheme to be passed… But BJP started breaking promises on day one. They did not pass the scheme. BJP has made up their mind to cheat the people of Delhi,” Atishi alleged.

Rekha Gupta, who secured a victory in the Delhi assembly elections from Shalimar Bagh, was sworn in as the fourth woman chief minister of Delhi on Thursday.
