Guwahati: An Army officer was reportedly arrested for the alleged murder of his wife in Goalpara, Assam.

The accused has been identified as Khairul Haque.

He was arrested for allegedly murdering his wife, Saleha Begum, in Assam's Goalpara.

The incident came to light on Sunday morning when Saleha's body was found in the driver's seat of a car.

According to the police, Khairul confessed to killing his wife due to an ongoing domestic dispute over property. The couple had been arguing over Saleha's purchase of a car and Khairul's involvement in another relationship.

The police investigation revealed that Khairul, along with his brother-in-law and another accomplice, forcibly took Saleha away on Saturday night. They then strangled her and staged the scene to make it appear as an accident.

The accused was arrested from a hotel in Guwahati's Lokhra area.

Further investigation regarding the incident is being carried out.
