Air Marshal Amar Preet Singh to be next Air Force Chief

September 21, 2024: In a significant leadership change, the Indian government has appointed Air Marshal Amar Preet Singh as the next Chief of the Air Staff of the Indian Air Force (IAF), effective September 30, 2024. He will succeed the outgoing Air Chief Marshal Vivek Ram Chaudhari, who is set to retire on the same day.

Currently serving as the Vice Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Singh will ascend to the rank of Air Chief Marshal, marking a pivotal moment in his distinguished career. His tenure as Vice Chief began on February 1, 2023, and has been characterized by a commitment to modernization and operational readiness within the IAF.

Commissioned into the fighter stream of the IAF on December 21, 1984, Singh has an extensive background in aerial operations and leadership. Before his current role, he commanded the Central Air Command (CAC) and served as the Senior Air Staff Officer at the Eastern Air Command, overseeing critical missions and strategies.

The change in leadership comes at a time when the Indian Air Force is focused on enhancing its capabilities and readiness in a rapidly evolving defense environment. Air Marshal Singh's experience and vision are expected to guide the IAF as it navigates future challenges and opportunities.
