Amul Files Complaint Over Misinformation Linked to Tirupati Laddoos Controversy

September 21, 2024: Amul has taken legal action against several users for spreading false information regarding its alleged involvement in the ongoing controversy surrounding the laddoos offered at the Tirupati temple. The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) filed a complaint with the Cyber Crime Police Station in Ahmedabad, asserting that the misinformation is damaging to the company’s reputation.

The complaint arises amidst a heated debate over the quality of ingredients used in the temple’s prasadam, with recent claims suggesting that animal fat was included. Former Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu accused the ruling YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) of compromising on quality, alleging that substandard ingredients were used in the temple’s offerings.

GCMMF Managing Director Jayen Mehta addressed the issue, emphasizing that Amul has never supplied ghee to the Tirupati Devasthanam. "Misinformation has been spreading for days, with posts falsely alleging that Amul was involved. This is an attempt to tarnish our reputation, which is why we decided to file a complaint," he stated.

In a bid to clarify its stance, Amul issued a public statement on social media, reaffirming that it has no connection to the laddoos controversy and has never provided any products to the temple. The company’s swift response highlights its commitment to addressing misinformation that could potentially harm its longstanding reputation in the dairy industry.
