Shillong: Lahkmen Rymbui, UDP MLA from Amlarem and former cabinet minister in Meghalaya, has urged the government to introduce a metro train service in New Shillong Township (NST) to prevent future traffic congestion.

He proposed a metro line connecting NEIGRIHMS, Mawpdang, and the New Secretariat to ensure the township's development as a modern metropolis.

Rymbui commended the government's plan to invest Rs 400 crore in NST, emphasizing the need for government colleges and schools for both boys and girls.

He also welcomed the decision to provide road connectivity from Mawlyngngad to the NEIGRIHMS side.

Regarding the international border, Rymbui expressed satisfaction with the Chief Minister's promise to approach the Government of India for funding. He suggested allocating funds from government programs for the international border.

Furthermore, Rymbui highlighted the potential of 35 acres of land donated by the Manners and Lynthong clans to the Forest department. He advocated for developing this historically significant land by collaborating with the Tourism and Forest departments, comparing its beauty to Thangkharang Park in Sohra.
