March 6, 2025: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has emphasized the need for a detailed discussion with stakeholders on the issue of railways, aiming to reach a general consensus on how to move forward.

This comes after a short-duration discussion in the Assembly, where Sangma highlighted the importance of addressing the concerns surrounding the railway project.

The Chief Minister pointed out that the issue at hand is not the railway itself, but rather the influx of people it may bring.

He stated that discussions should focus on issues rather than taking a rigid stance.

Sangma also stated that the central government wants to bring railways to all state capitals, and Meghalaya may be the only state left without a rail head if the opportunity is missed.

Sangma urged the people to consider the long-term implications of the project, which could be a game-changer for trade, entrepreneurs, and farmers in the state.

He also suggested that the government may be open to reappropriating funds for a different route, taking into account the feelings of the people at the grassroots level.
