February 18, 2025: The Supreme Court of India has delivered a strong condemnation against popular podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia, following his controversial remarks on Samay Raina’s India's Got Latent show. The Court characterized Allahbadia’s comments as a manifestation of a "very dirty" mind, urging that such behavior must be unequivocally condemned.
The remarks, which led to multiple FIRs being lodged against Allahbadia, prompted him to file a petition in the Supreme Court, seeking protection from arrest and the clubbing of all FIRs filed against him.
During the proceedings, a bench consisting of Justices Surya Kant and N. Kotiswar Singh expressed their outrage at the language used by the podcaster. Justice Kant described the remarks as "reflecting the perverted mind" of Allahbadia, noting that such statements would cause shame among parents and sisters, and disgust the entire society. The court emphasized that no matter how popular one is, they cannot be allowed to take society for granted.
"This is something very dirty in his mind which has been vomited. Why should we protect him?" Justice Kant said. He further added that the "perversion" exhibited by Allahbadia and his associates was deeply troubling, and that society at large would feel ashamed of such language.
While Allahbadia received temporary relief in the form of protection from arrest, the Court also placed a restriction on him from airing further episodes of his YouTube show. The bench reiterated that there is a judicial system in place, and any threats against Allahbadia would be addressed in accordance with the law.
The case has sparked a broader debate about the responsibility of public figures and influencers in maintaining societal decency, especially when their platforms reach millions of people. The Supreme Court's remarks serve as a stern reminder that such offensive behavior cannot be excused, regardless of one’s popularity.
