Prashant Kishor Launches Jan Suraaj Party in Patna

October 2, 2024: Poll strategist-turned-politician Prashant Kishor officially launched his new political party, the "Jan Suraaj Party," during a vibrant event in Patna on Wednesday. Kishor announced that the party has been operational for the past two years and recently received approval from the Election Commission of India, paving the way for its participation in the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections.

At the launch, Kishor emphasized the party's commitment to reshaping Bihar’s political landscape, stating that Jan Suraaj aims to be a unifying force that combines the interests of various communities, including both the RSS and minorities. In a veiled critique of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), he addressed concerns regarding his party's connections to the BJP, asserting that Jan Suraaj is a progressive movement designed for all.

A focal point of Kishor’s address was a call for a significant overhaul of Bihar’s education system. He estimated that achieving world-class educational standards would require an investment of approximately ₹5 lakh crore over the next decade. Kishor stressed that this transformation is essential for the state's future and urged attendees to support this vision.

Kishor also tackled the contentious issue of the state's liquor ban, revealing that the annual revenue loss from the ban stands at around ₹20,000 crore. He argued that these funds, if redirected, could substantially contribute to educational reforms in Bihar. “When the liquor ban is removed, that money won't go into the budget for roads, water, electricity, or security for leaders. It will be used only for building a new education system in Bihar,” he proclaimed, highlighting the urgent need for investment in the state’s youth and infrastructure.
