January 18, 2025: A tragic incident unfolded late Friday evening near a private hospital on Bhoothnath Road, under the jurisdiction of the Agamkuan police station, where an oxygen cylinder exploded, claiming one life and leaving another individual severely injured, police confirmed on Saturday.
The explosion occurred during the unloading of oxygen cylinders near the hospital premises. According to a police officer at the scene, the blast was so intense that it created a mushroom cloud and a shock wave, spreading confusion and panic among residents and bystanders.
“The individual unloading the cylinders succumbed to the blast on the spot, while another person in the vicinity sustained serious injuries, resulting in the loss of a leg. The injured has been rushed to the hospital for treatment,” the officer said.
A scooter parked near the site of the explosion was also damaged, further illustrating the power of the blast.
The Agamkuan police station team arrived promptly and has launched an investigation to ascertain the cause of the explosion. Authorities are also assessing whether safety protocols for handling oxygen cylinders were adequately followed.
