December 24, 2024: A new forensic report submitted to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has raised critical questions about the circumstances surrounding the brutal rape and murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Hospital. The report, prepared by experts from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL), suggests that there is no evidence of a struggle or resistance at the crime scene where the doctor’s body was discovered.
The victim's body was found in the seminar room of the hospital on August 9, 2024, triggering widespread outrage and protests by healthcare professionals across the country. The forensic team visited the scene on August 14, conducting a thorough examination and collecting vital samples, including from a wooden stage mattress in the seminar hall where the assault is believed to have occurred.
According to the forensic findings, the areas around the mattress, including the wooden stage and surrounding floor, showed no signs of biological stains or struggle. The CFSL report noted that there was "no evidence of a possible struggle" between the victim and the assailant in the seminar hall. The absence of these signs has raised questions about whether the crime took place in the seminar room at all.
One of the key observations made by the forensic experts is that the injuries sustained by the victim appeared to correspond with the cut marks found on the mattress, suggesting that the victim was lying down when the assault occurred. However, the report emphasized that there was no physical evidence indicating a violent altercation, which typically accompanies such crimes.
The forensic team also raised concerns about the feasibility of the accused, Sanjay Roy, a civic volunteer affiliated with the Kolkata Police, entering the seminar hall unnoticed. The report described it as "highly improbable" that the crime could have occurred without detection, given the busy hospital corridor and the presence of staff in adjoining areas.
These findings have added to the mystery surrounding the case, prompting further scrutiny of the investigation. The CBI, which has already filed a charge-sheet against Roy, is continuing to probe the circumstances of the crime.
As the investigation unfolds, healthcare workers and the public continue to demand justice for the victim, whose tragic death has sparked national outrage. The forensic revelations have deepened concerns about the investigation's direction and the possibility of further developments in the case.
