Delhi Court Extends Arvind Kejriwal’s Custody in Excise Policy Case

September 11, 2024: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s judicial custody has been extended until September 25 by a Delhi court. The extension was granted by Special Judge Kaveri Baweja on Wednesday as part of an ongoing money laundering investigation related to an alleged excise policy scandal.

Kejriwal appeared in court following a summons issued on September 3, which was prompted by the Central Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) fourth supplementary chargesheet in the case. Along with Kejriwal, five other accused – Aam Aadmi Party MLA Durgesh Pathak, Amit Arora, Vinod Chauhan, Ashish Mathur, and P. Sarath Reddy – were summoned to appear today.

During the court session, Kejriwal and the other detainees joined proceedings via video link from Tihar Jail, while Vinod Chauhan attended in person. The case has drawn significant attention due to its potential impact on the Aam Aadmi Party and its leadership.

The extended custody period allows for continued legal proceedings as the investigation into the alleged irregularities in the excise policy unfolds.
