February 19, 2025: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday dismissed concerns over the water quality at the Sangam, calling reports of faecal bacteria contamination a "propaganda" to malign the ongoing Maha Kumbh. He emphasized that the river water is clean and fit for devotees to take a holy dip.
Addressing the UP Assembly, Adityanath said, “Making baseless allegations or circulating fake videos against Sanatan Dharma, Maa Ganga, India, or the Maha Kumbh is like playing with the faith of crores of people who have come to Prayagraj.” He reiterated that the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) report was being misused to create unnecessary panic.
The Maha Kumbh Mela, which has seen a massive turnout, has just seven days left. As per official data, over 56 crore devotees have taken a dip in the holy waters. Adityanath stressed that the event is a collective responsibility of society and is not organized by any particular party.
Expressing condolences for the victims of the January 29 stampede, the CM assured that the government stands with the affected families and will extend all possible assistance. He urged that such tragedies should not be politicized, stating, “Our sympathies are with those who lost their lives. The government will provide every possible help to their families.”
The Maha Kumbh 2025 in Prayagraj continues to witness an overwhelming number of devotees, reaffirming its significance as one of the largest religious gatherings in the world.
