Atishi Officially Becomes Delhi’s Chief Minister, Succeeding Arvind Kejriwal

September 21, 2024: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Atishi was sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Delhi on Saturday, marking a significant shift in the city's political landscape. She replaces Arvind Kejriwal, who resigned on Tuesday amid ongoing political developments.

Atishi's ascension follows her election as the leader of the legislature party just days before the oath-taking ceremony. Aged 43, she has been a prominent figure in the AAP, having previously managed key portfolios such as finance, education, and revenue during Kejriwal’s administration. Notably, she played a crucial role in maintaining governance while Kejriwal was incarcerated.

Alongside Atishi, Saurabh Bharadwaj, Gopal Rai, and Kailash Gahlot were sworn in as ministers, retaining their positions in the new cabinet. Additionally, Imran Hussain joined the cabinet, and Sultanpur Majra legislator Mukesh Ahlawat made his debut as a minister, adding fresh energy to the team.

The new government is expected to have a brief tenure, with Delhi assembly elections scheduled for February next year. As the capital city prepares for this electoral challenge, Atishi's leadership will be closely scrutinized as she navigates the complexities of governance and public expectations in the months ahead.
