September 25, 2024: Kangana Ranaut, the actor-turned-BJP Member of Parliament, issued an apology on Wednesday after retracting her recent remarks advocating for the reinstatement of the three contentious farm laws that were repealed in 2021.
In a video statement, Ranaut expressed regret for any disappointment her comments may have caused, clarifying that they represented her personal views and not the official stance of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
“Recently, during media interactions, I suggested that farmers should appeal to Prime Minister Modi to reconsider the farm laws. I realize this may have upset many, and for that, I am truly sorry,” she stated.
Ranaut acknowledged the sensitivity surrounding the farm laws, noting that many had supported them when initially proposed. “The Prime Minister withdrew these laws with great sensitivity and sympathy, and it is our duty to respect his decision. I must remember that I am not just an artist; I am a dedicated worker of the BJP. My opinions should align with the party’s stance,” she emphasized.
