January 2, 2025: A devastating water pipeline burst in the Kharghuli area this morning has left the community in turmoil. The incident, involving a JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) water pipeline, caused extensive damage, leaving over 15 households flooded and residents injured. Rescue operations are underway, with reports of individuals still trapped in waterlogged homes.
Among the victims is a 25-year-old youth who remains missing as floodwaters hinder search efforts. This marks the second pipeline burst in Kharghuli in recent times, reigniting public outrage. In the previous incident, a woman tragically lost her life.
The repeated failures have sparked widespread anger, with residents taking to the streets to demand immediate action. Agitated locals accused JICA of negligence and the government of failing to ensure public safety. Chanting slogans of “We don’t want JICA,” the protestors called for the removal of all JICA-operated water pipelines in the area, citing the agency's inability to prevent recurring disasters.
“The safety of our families is at stake. How many more lives need to be lost before authorities take action?” said a resident, voicing the frustration of many.
Officials have yet to comment on the incident or the growing demand to dismantle JICA's infrastructure. Meanwhile, rescue teams continue their operations, and the focus remains on providing immediate relief to the affected families.
The Kharghuli pipeline bursts have raised serious concerns over infrastructure safety, with residents now questioning the reliability of JICA’s projects and demanding accountability.
