June 24, 2022: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of senior IPS officer Tapan Kumar Deka, IPS (1988 batch, Himachal Pradesh cadre) as Director of Intelligence Bureau. He would replace Arvind Kumar whose extended tenure ends on June 30.

Deka, who as the Special Director IB has been handling the operations wing of the IB, would take over as the new chief for two years, according to an official order issued by the Personnel Ministry.
