March 15, 2025: Amid the festive celebrations of Holi, a shocking incident of rape has been reported from Kherbari village under Jinjia Police Station in Behali.

According to reports, the incident took place around 2 PM on Friday when a specially-abled young woman from Kherbari village went to a nearby tea garden to collect firewood. Seizing the opportunity, a youth from the same village, identified as Mridul Shil, allegedly assaulted and raped the victim in the isolated garden area. The victim’s family members informed the media about the horrific crime.

Upon receiving the information, a team from Jinjia Police reached the scene. However, the accused, Mridul Shil, managed to escape before the police arrived. The authorities have since launched an intensive manhunt to apprehend him.

Meanwhile, the police have recorded statements and sent the survivor for a medical examination at Biswanath Chariali Civil Hospital. An investigation into the matter is currently underway, and law enforcement officials have assured that the accused will be brought to justice at the earliest.

The incident has sparked outrage in the region, with locals demanding strict action against the perpetrator.
