Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma claimed that state will soon have 4-5 satellites hovering over its skies to provide real-time data for various critical sectors.
This project was first announced by Finance Minister Ajanta Neog during the presentation of the Assam Budget 2025.
The satellites aim to drive economic growth, technological advancements, and sustainability in the state.
Each satellite, costing around Rs 60-70 crore, will aid in real-time flood and disaster monitoring, surveillance against illegal migration and drug trafficking, wildlife tracking in national parks, and improving agriculture and road networks, he said.
The Assam government is currently in advanced negotiations with IN-SPACe (Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Center) for the satellite constellation project.
This initiative is part of the state's vision to become a front-runner among Indian states, with a focus on empowering the poor and middle class.
He informed that the Assam government has also partnered with the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) to launch an Assam-specific satellite, which will aid in flood prediction, border management, and support the agricultural sector.
