Meghalaya: KSU threatens to disrupt NEIGRIHMS nurse recruitment over local candidate concerns

Shillong: The Khasi Students' Union (KSU) has warned that it will not allow the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) in Meghalaya to conduct its nurse recruitment drive unless the exercise is fair and transparent for local candidates.

The KSU Employment Monitoring Cell (EMC) stated that the union has submitted a memorandum to NEIGRIHMS director, Prof Nalin Mehta, highlighting various anomalies in the recruitment process. The union has demanded a response to their queries within a week.

The KSU stated that it will scrutinize the director's response and will not hesitate to take action if their concerns are not addressed. The union has called for the recruitment process to be put on hold until their demands are met.

Among the KSU's demands are the reinstatement of the age limit to 35 years, a 20:80 male-female ratio for nursing officers and recruitment to be done through offline mode.

The union has also expressed concern over the lack of representation of Scheduled Tribes in the recruitment process, with only two out of 105 vacant posts reserved for ST candidates.

Furthermore, the KSU has demanded that the OBC reservation be abolished in Group B and C posts in Meghalaya, as there is no OBC list in the state.

The union has also called for a review of the roster register and the resolution of backlog vacancies.

The KSU has warned that any deviation from their demands will prompt the union to take drastic action.
