March 14, 2025: Hindus worldwide are celebrating the vibrant festival of Holi today, March 14, marking the triumph of good over evil. According to popular legend, this day symbolizes the divine love between Lord Krishna and Radha.
As per Hindu mythology, Lord Krishna was self-conscious about his complexion and often wondered if fair-skinned Radha would accept him. In a playful gesture, Lord Krishna’s mother, Yashoda, suggested that he should colour Radha’s face with gulal to bridge the difference between them.
This light hearted act evolved into a tradition and inspired holi’s colourful celebrations.
In Assam, Kirtan ghar in Barpeta is a major hub for Holi celebrations, spanning four days from March 13 to 16 this year. The festivities will feature traditional Holi songs, captivating dramas and Satriya instrumental presentations. On the final day, the suweri celebrations will allow participants to experience the joyous tradition of playing with colours.
Additionally, the Doul Govinda temple in North Guwahati is hosting a colourful five-day event to celebrate the Holi festival.
