March 10, 2025: Recently Home Minister Amit Shah instructed Delhi Police and government to strictly start a mission to detect and deport Bangladesh nationals and Rohingiyas from the national capital region (NCR). These refugees are posing a serious threat to national security, he said.
The Delhi police was on a 2 month long drive following the order of Shah.
Reacting to this, AASU chief advisor Samujjal Bhattacharya said the Centre should have equal policy for each and every part of the country. Illegal migrants from Bangladesh have been a serious issue in Assam since decades. It has changed the demography of the state, and the overall economy of the state is negatively affected.
If the centre can take stringent action against Bangladeshi refugees in the capital, why can’t the same be applied when it comes to Assam? He asks.
He said that along with foreign nationals, elements of jihadi groups are also infiltrating into Assam. Several members of jihadi groups have already been arrested, he added.
