February 25, 2025: A tragic road accident took place at Naxalbari in West Bengal, where a vehicle carrying devotees from Mayong, Assam, to the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, met with a fatal collision. Three people lost their lives, while ten others sustained injuries, five of whom are in critical condition.
The accident occurred on Sunday when a Bolero Pickup Van (registration number AS01LC 2596) carrying 13 devotees from West Mayong Village Panchayat, Chandrapur, collided head-on with a container truck (UP21ET1665) at Satbhai under the Naxalbari police station.
Among the deceased, Niranjan Sarkar died on the spot, while Amrit Biswas and Ranju Biswas succumbed to their injuries at the hospital. The injured have been identified as Ramlal Biswas (Dighol Ati), Shrikant Biswas (Dighol Ati), Revati Sen (No. 1 Dhankhunda), Pawan Kshatriya (Kordaiya), Ravi Malo (Kordaiya), Krishna Das (Kolongpar), Ranjit Biswas (Dighol Ati), Shyamal Das (Khetri), and Ratan Biswas (Amingaon).
Authorities have stated that five of the injured victims are in critical condition and are undergoing treatment at a nearby hospital.
Local police have initiated an investigation into the incident, and further details are awaited.
