Sakkarbaug Zoo in Gujarat Welcomes Rare White Tiger Pair in Exciting Animal Exchange

December 25, 2024: The Sakkarbaug Zoo in Gujarat is abuzz with excitement as it welcomes a new pair of majestic white tigers. The male and female tigers, transported from Pradhyuman Zoological Park in Rajkot, arrived after covering a distance of over 100 kilometers, adding to the zoo’s already diverse animal collection.

In a rare exchange, the zoo bid farewell to a pair of lions, which have been relocated to Rajkot as part of the ongoing Animal Exchange Program under the Central Zoo Authority (CZA). This strategic animal swap reflects a growing emphasis on animal welfare and conservation efforts across the country.

The white tigers, after being carefully quarantined for 21 days as per CZA guidelines, have now made their debut in the zoo's jungle safari route, where visitors can marvel at these rare and beautiful creatures for the first time in over two and a half years. The zoo, known for its lush environment, is adding an extra charge of Rs. 50 for visitors wishing to catch a glimpse of the tigers.

The Central Zoo Authority, a statutory body under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, continues to stress that zoos' roles have evolved beyond exhibition spaces to centers of conservation. According to CZA, zoos must ensure the proper housing and care of animals to promote longevity and avoid premature deaths, emphasizing the importance of animal exchanges for improving the overall health and quality of life for zoo animals.

As the Sakkarbaug Zoo ushers in this exciting new chapter, visitors and animal lovers alike are eagerly anticipating the opportunity to witness the elegance of these rare tigers in their new home.
