Saif Ali Khan's Attacker Entered India Illegally, Police Reveal

January 21, 2025: The man arrested for the knife attack on Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, which occurred on January 16, entered India illegally approximately seven months ago, police revealed on Tuesday. Shariful Islam Shehzad Mohammad Rohilla Amin Fakir, a 30-year-old Bangladeshi national, was apprehended in Thane on Sunday for the stabbing incident at Khan’s residence in Bandra.

According to the police, Fakir, who went by the alias Vijay Das, crossed the Dawki River into India seven months ago. After arriving in West Bengal, he used the Aadhaar card of a local resident, Khukumoni Jahangir Sekha, to obtain a SIM card, which he later used to contact people. Fakir then moved to Mumbai in search of employment, relying on a fake identity to avoid suspicion.

Police confirmed that the SIM card was registered in the name of Sekha, but Fakir had tried to acquire an Aadhaar card under his own name but failed. In Mumbai, he worked under the radar, finding jobs that required no documentation, including housekeeping roles in pubs and hotels in areas like Worli and Thane. These jobs were arranged by a labour contractor, Amit Pandey.

Fakir's phone records, as per the police, showed multiple calls to Bangladesh, indicating he maintained regular communication with his family back home.

Saif Ali Khan, 54, was attacked inside his apartment, suffering multiple stab wounds that required immediate surgery. Following his arrest, the accused was remanded to five days in police custody by the metropolitan magistrate's court in Bandra.

The police continue to investigate the motive behind the attack as they gather further information about Fakir’s illegal stay in India and his connections.
