JULY 25, 2024 - Pune is grappling with severe flooding as heavy rain continues to lash the city, leading to the tragic deaths of four individuals in rain-related incidents on Thursday. The relentless downpour, which began overnight, has caused significant waterlogging in various residential areas, prompting Pune District Collector Suhas Diwase to order the closure of all schools in the city.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Pune, predicting extremely heavy rainfall at isolated locations in the ghat areas and moderate rains in the plains through Friday. According to IMD, Pune district has recorded 567.2 mm of rainfall from June 1 to July 24, 2024.

Tragically, three people were electrocuted through water at Pulachi Wadi in the Deccan Gymkhana area, while another individual lost their life in a landslide triggered by the rain in Adarwadi village, Maval tehsil, as reported by The Indian Express.

In response to the escalating situation, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has placed the Indian Air Force and Army on alert for potential flood relief operations in Pune and other affected areas.
