Major Fire Breaks Out at 15-Storey Times Tower in Mumbai’s Lower Parel

SEPTEMBER 6, 2024- A major fire erupted early Friday morning at the Times Tower building, a 15-storey high-rise in Mumbai's Lower Parel area, located within the Kamala Mills compound. The fire, which was first reported around 6:30 am, was declared a level 2 (major) fire by the city's fire brigade, prompting an immediate response with eight fire engines and other firefighting vehicles rushing to the scene.

According to civic officials, the fire originated in the building's electrical duct and spread between the third and seventh floors. Efforts to extinguish the blaze are ongoing, with five fire engines and seven jumbo tankers deployed for the operation. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported at this time.

Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) leader Sandeep Deshpande commented on the incident, noting that this marks the third fire in the Kamala Mills compound in the last five years. He raised concerns over the lack of fire safety audits and blamed rising illegal construction in the area, which he claims is being supported by local MLAs.

As fire crews continue their efforts, authorities are investigating the cause and assessing any damage to the structure. The incident has raised fresh alarms over fire safety measures in the city’s high-rise buildings.
