Iran Launches Missile Attack on Israeli Military Bases; No Casualties Reported Amid Heightened Tensions

October 2, 2024: In a dramatic escalation of tensions in the Middle East, Iran launched a missile attack late Tuesday targeting Israeli military facilities, including the Nevatim air base, the Netzarim military facility, and the Tel Nof intelligence unit. The operation, dubbed "Operation True Promise II," was reported by Iranian state television, citing Mohammad Bagheri, Iran's Chief of General Staff.

According to Bagheri, the missiles used in the assault were hypersonic Fatah missiles, launched by the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) Aerospace Force. Iranian sources claimed that the Nevatim air base, home to Israel's F-35 fighter jets, was among the primary targets. Reports indicated that these fighter jets had recently participated in operations against Hezbollah in Beirut.

In a statement to Press TV, Bagheri emphasized that Iran's strikes were carefully aimed at military installations and intentionally avoided civilian targets, describing the attack as retaliation for the recent killings of high-profile figures, including Hamas chief Ismail Haniyah and Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian defended the military actions, stating they were in line with Iran's legitimate rights to ensure regional security. He characterized the strikes as necessary to protect Iranian interests and citizens.

Following the missile launch, celebrations erupted across several Iranian cities, where citizens waved flags representing Iran, Lebanon, and Palestine, expressing solidarity with the IRGC's actions.

In contrast, Israeli military officials reported that while approximately 180 missiles were launched in the attack, the majority were intercepted, and no casualties have been reported within Israel.
