Iltija Mufti Concedes Defeat in Bijbehara, Acknowledges People's Verdict

October 8, 2024: Iltija Mufti, daughter of former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, has conceded defeat in the Bijbehara constituency during the assembly elections held today.

In a heartfelt post on X, Iltija expressed her gratitude to the people of Bijbehara, stating, "I accept the verdict of the people. The love and affection I received from everyone in Bijbehara will always stay with me." She also thanked her supporters and the members of her party, the People's Democratic Party (PDP), for their hard work throughout the campaign.

Iltija, 37, emerged as a prominent political figure during her mother's detention following the revocation of Article 370 in 2019. This election was significant, as Mehbooba Mufti did not contest, making Iltija the party's primary candidate in South Kashmir.

As the results were announced, Iltija's acknowledgment of the people's decision reflects a commitment to democratic values, despite the setback. The election results mark a pivotal moment for the PDP in a region known as the family's political stronghold.
