March 13, 2025: In a major development in the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) case, the High Court has rejected a plea filed by 13 suspended gazetted officers accused in the case. The accused had challenged the chargesheet filed by the Special Investigation Team (SIT), but the Special Judge dismissed their petition, paving the way for the trial proceedings.
With this decision, the case will now advance to the Special Judge’s court for further legal proceedings. Notably, the SIT had not initially named these individuals as accused. However, after reviewing the case diary, the Special Judge took cognizance of the matter and ordered a fresh investigation, appointing a new investigating officer.
Following the renewed probe, the SIT submitted the 14th chargesheet in the case, officially naming all 13 officers as accused. The individuals implicated in the case include Dhruvajyoti Hatibaruah, Dr. Hitesh Mazumdar, Akashi Duwara, Kulapradip Bhattacharya, Rumi Timungpi, Farooq Ahmed, Kalyan Kumar Das, Nandini Kakoti, Analjyoti Das, Bikash Sharma, Jayanta Doley, Priyanka Deka, and Sauravpran Sharma.
The judicial commission, after a thorough review of the evidence, found all of them guilty. With the High Court’s decision to reject the plea against the chargesheet, the legal proceedings will continue in the Special Judge’s court, marking a crucial step forward in the case’s progress. Authorities and legal experts are closely monitoring the case as it moves into the next phase of judicial scrutiny.
