January 7, 2025: The Election Commission of India has announced the dates for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections, which will be held in a single phase on February 5, 2025. The results will be declared on February 8, 2025.
Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar made the announcement at a press conference on Tuesday, providing the full schedule of the election process. He confirmed that the date of notification will be January 10, with the last date for filing nominations set for January 17. Nominations will undergo scrutiny on January 18, and the last day for withdrawal of nominations will be January 20. The entire electoral process, including the counting of votes on February 8, will conclude by February 10.
“It's a single-phase election. India is a gold standard of elections. Our procedures are so detailed, leaving no scope for irregularities. We are ready to ensure accountability and will punish any mistakes made,” said Kumar, emphasizing the integrity and transparency of the election process.
The election is crucial for the Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which is aiming for a third consecutive term in office in Delhi. The announcement of the election dates comes just a day after the Election Commission published the final electoral roll, which indicates a total of 1,55,24,858 registered voters in Delhi. This reflects a 1.09% increase in the voter base since the previous election.
With political parties gearing up for the battle, all eyes will be on Delhi as the election date draws nearer.
