Union Health Minister J P Nadda Boosts Assam's Healthcare with New Mental Health and Critical Care Facilities

January 8, 2025: Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda inaugurated a state-of-the-art library and informatics centre at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi Regional Institute of Mental Health (LGBRIMH) in Tezpur on Wednesday, enhancing mental health education and research capabilities in the region.

Accompanied by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Nadda also laid the foundation stone for a critical care block at Mangaldai Civil Hospital in Darrang district. The new facility is expected to bolster emergency healthcare services, benefiting thousands of residents in the district and surrounding areas.

Despite delays caused by adverse weather conditions, Nadda’s visit highlighted the central government’s dedication to improving healthcare infrastructure in Assam, with a particular focus on mental health resources. Speaking at the event, the Union Minister emphasized the importance of robust healthcare systems to ensure the well-being of citizens, adding that such initiatives are pivotal to achieving equitable health access across India.

Chief Minister Sarma expressed gratitude to the Union government for its continued support, noting that the new projects would significantly impact Assam's healthcare landscape. The initiatives align with the state's broader goal of expanding access to specialized medical facilities and improving overall healthcare delivery.

The event marks another milestone in Assam's journey toward strengthening its health infrastructure, underscoring the collaborative efforts of the state and central governments in prioritizing public health.
