January 3, 2025: In a significant move to enhance transportation and digital connectivity in Assam, Union Minister of Railways, Information & Broadcasting, and Electronics Ashwini Vaishnaw flagged off three new trains from Guwahati Railway Station today.
The newly launched trains include the Guwahati-New Lakhimpur Janshatabdi Express, the New Bongaigaon–Guwahati Passenger Train, and the Tinsukia–Naharlagun Express. These services are expected to bolster regional connectivity and improve travel options for passengers across Assam and neighboring areas.
In addition to the rail services, the Minister dedicated the Tetelia Road Over Bridge (ROB) in Dispur, Guwahati, marking another milestone in the city's infrastructure development. The ROB is anticipated to ease traffic congestion, particularly during peak hours.
Vaishnaw also virtually inaugurated a 10 KW FM Transmitter at Akashvani Kokrajhar, which has been operating with a 20 Kilowatt Medium Wave transmitter since 1999. The new FM transmitter will extend its coverage to a radius of 70 kilometers, offering superior reception quality. This upgrade will benefit over 30 lakh residents in the region, including those in Dhubri, Bongaigaon, and Chirang, providing them with access to clearer and high-quality FM broadcasts.
Furthering the commitment to technological advancement, the Union Minister also virtually inaugurated the NIELIT (National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology) Deemed to be University, which aims to foster electronics and information technology education in the region.
Later in the day, the Minister is scheduled to visit the Tata Semiconductor factory at Jagiroad and review ongoing projects of the Northeast Frontier Railway. His visit highlights the government's continued focus on infrastructure development and modernization of the Northeast region.
