Breakthrough in Saif Ali Khan Stabbing Case: Facial Recognition Links Accused to CCTV Footage

January 31, 2025: A major breakthrough has been reported in the ongoing investigation into the stabbing of Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, with new developments emerging in the case. A facial recognition test conducted at Kalina Forensic Lab has confirmed that the man arrested in connection with the attack, Shariful Islam, is the individual captured on CCTV footage from the actor's building.

The test, which compared the image from the footage with a photo of Islam taken after his arrest, showed a positive match. "The test has come positive," a source close to the investigation revealed, marking a significant step forward in the case.

Earlier forensic analysis had already provided some insight into the incident, with experts examining Saif Ali Khan’s blood samples, his clothes, and the attacker’s clothing for further clues. The blood stains found on the attacker’s clothes are now being tested to confirm if they belong to the actor.

Shariful Islam, the primary suspect, is currently in judicial custody after the Bandra Metropolitan Court granted the police a 14-day remand extension. The authorities are continuing to probe all aspects of the case in hopes of uncovering the full extent of the crime.

Beyond Mumbai, police have expanded their search and are now investigating leads in West Bengal. A two-member team from the Mumbai Police recently traveled to Nadia district to question a woman named Khukumoi Jahangir Sheikh, who is believed to be connected to the SIM card used by the attacker. Sources suggest that the police may apply for a transit remand to bring her to Mumbai for further questioning.

The violent incident occurred earlier this month when an intruder attempted to rob Saif Ali Khan's residence in the Satguru Sharan building in Bandra. During the attack, the actor was stabbed multiple times but was rushed to Lilavati Hospital, where he underwent surgery. Though his recovery continues, the investigation into the attack remains a top priority, as the authorities continue their efforts to bring the responsible individuals to justice.
