January 27, 2025: The city was shaken by the mysterious death of a 21-year-old woman whose lifeless body was discovered in her boyfriend’s rented room in Gandhibasti under Chanmari police station.

The police have detained the victim’s boyfriend, identified as Indrajit Pite, a student originally from Simen Chapori in Dhemaji district. Indrajit and the victim, who also hailed from Simen Chapori, had arrived in Guwahati five days ago.

Sources reveal that the young woman visited Indrajit at his rented accommodation on Sunday, which tragically became the site of her untimely death. Preliminary investigations suggest that the woman may have committed suicide following the rejection of a marriage proposal.
