Poonch: Tensions flared along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district on April 1 when the Pakistani Army engaged in unprovoked firing following a mine explosion, an Indian Army spokesperson reported.
The incident, which occurred in the Krishna Ghati sector, prompted a measured and effective response from Indian troops, who successfully stabilized the situation, according to Army PRO Lt Colonel Suneel Bartwal.
The sequence of events began on Tuesday when a landmine detonated while Pakistani troops were patrolling near the LoC, as detailed in a revised statement from the PRO on Wednesday.
“The explosion was followed by unprovoked gunfire and a ceasefire violation by the Pakistan Army,” Lt Colonel Bartwal explained. He emphasized that Indian forces countered the aggression decisively, maintaining dominance along the border. “The situation remains under control and is being closely monitored,” he added.
In its official statement, the Indian Army underscored its commitment to the 2021 agreement between the Director Generals of Military Operations of both nations, which seeks to preserve peace along the LoC.
The PRO’s initial remarks had suggested a possible intrusion by Pakistani forces, but the revised version clarified that the mine blast occurred during their patrol, omitting any explicit mention of a border crossing, though it did not rule it out either.
Some reports also stated that the episode unfolded around 1:30 PM in the Nangi Tikri area of Krishna Ghati. They alleged that a group, likely comprising Pakistani soldiers and militants, had crossed into Indian territory, possibly to plant improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
