July 21, 2021: A day after President of Manipur Congress, Govindas Konthoujam and two other senior leaders resigned from the party, the central leadership is worried. It has rushed Congress in charge for Manipur, Bhakta Charan Das to Imphal today.

He has been sent by the party high command to take stock of the party’s situation in the state ahead of the state assembly elections. He will be meeting with senior leaders and other leaders of the party in Manipur.

Govindas has just mentioned “personal reason” in his letter of resignation submitted to the AICC president in charge Sonia Gandhi.

Govindas Konthoujam, and two MLAs – KH Joykishan and Y Haokip have resigned from the party and are likely to join the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party.

Sources said that another 5 Manipur Congress leaders are expected to quit the party ahead of the Assembly elections.
