July 27, 2021: In a major development, Meghalaya Health Minister and senior BJP MLA AL Hek have been dropped from the Meghalaya Cabinet. Sanbor Shullai another BJP MLA from South Shillong would replace Hek.

The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled to be held this evening at Raj Bhavan, Shillong.

Hek represents the Pynthorumkhrah Assembly constituency.

This is being done in keeping with Meghalaya BJP’s decision to rotate responsibility, sources said.

Both the BJP MLAs had earlier decided to divide the term as ministers for two-and -half year each but they had later decided that Hek would continue the full term.

The change comes within days of Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to the state and his discussions with the state BJP party leaders. According to sources, Hek is likely to take over as Meghalaya BJP President as the state prepares to go to polls in 2023
