Kejriwal Returns to Supreme Court Following High Court Setback After 18 Days

April10, 2024: A day after the Delhi High Court dismissed his petition challenging his arrest in the liquor policy case, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is set to seek recourse from the Supreme Court today. His counsel will present the matter before Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud at approximately 10.30 am, seeking an urgent hearing.
The high court's decision yesterday to dismiss Mr. Kejriwal's challenge to his March 21 arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) came amidst allegations of his involvement in the use and concealment of alleged proceeds of crime. The court emphasized the ED's claim that Mr. Kejriwal had evaded multiple summonses, leaving the agency with limited options.Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma underscored that no separate protocol exists for questioning individuals based on their public office, dismissing the notion of special privileges for public figures.
