May 14, 2024 : This monsoon the first rain of the season didn't turnout to be a great one. The rain was followed by a massive dust storm that turned the sky dark around 3pm on May 13. The storm reached its peak when a 100-feet tall hoarding collapsed and fell on a petrol pump at the Cheddanagar Junction in Mumbai's Ghatkopar, Causing traffic for both vehicles and people. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) Has been called for help, above 70 were rescued from the site and 17 were killed. CCTV footage from the area captured the metal structure tearing through the roofs of several cars before thudding on the ground. The search and rescue mission was held in collaboration with the Mumbai Fire Brigade and other related agencies. 

Sudden change in the weather brought traffic to the roads as commuters had to rush in search of shed to save their lives. Ghatkopar, Bandra, Dharavi and Kurla areas of Mumbai witnessed strong winds and rain. The extreme weather led to disruption of Mumbai Airport operations, fallen trees and traffic coming to a standstill. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) in Mumbai has issued a "Nowcast Warning" forecasting a thunderstorm accompanied by harsh lightening and varying spells of rain for Thane, Palghar and Mumbai. Pune and Satara were marked as yellow areas with moderate to severe thunderstorms. Metro services are temporarily suspended between Aarey and Andheri East metro stations after falling of a huge banner on the overheard wire due to strong winds. The Mumbai airport, being one of the busiest airport of the country was temporarily suspended from landing and takeoff operations. The operations were resumed around 5:03pm after witnessing diversion of 15 flights.
