October 21, 2024: In a significant legal development, renowned Tollywood actor Allu Arjun and former MLA Shilpa Ravichandra Kishore Reddy have approached the Andhra Pradesh High Court, aiming to quash a case filed against them regarding alleged election violations in Nandyal. The case stems from Arjun's unexpected appearance at a political rally supporting Ravichandra during the general elections in May.
The First Information Report (FIR) was registered against the duo, citing violations of election protocols, including disobeying an order from a public servant, which allegedly resulted in a potential riot risk. The charges also include contraventions of the Election Code and the Andhra Pradesh Police Act due to their assembly of a large crowd without appropriate permissions.
Allu Arjun, accompanied by his wife Sneha Reddy, visited Nandyal on May 11, 2024, to rally support for Ravichandra, prompting an overwhelming turnout of fans and supporters. This surprise appearance sparked significant excitement but raised concerns about adherence to election regulations.
In their petition, both Arjun and Ravichandra have requested the court to invalidate the FIR filed at the Nandyal police station. Notably, Arjun is also seeking protection from arrest in connection with the case. To this end, he has submitted an Interlocutory Application requesting a stay on all further proceedings, including any potential arrests.
The Andhra Pradesh High Court has accepted the plea and is scheduled to hear the matter tomorrow, marking a crucial moment for both the actor and the former MLA as they navigate this legal challenge.
