February 10, 2025: At least seven rocket ammunition were discovered this afternoon in a garbage dump on Rajpura Road in Punjab’s Patiala, triggering panic among local residents.
According to police officials, the ammunition was found after authorities received a tip-off regarding suspicious materials in the area. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Nanak Singh stated that preliminary investigations indicate that a scrap dealer may have left them at the site.
“Since this location is a garbage dump, it is possible that the scrap dealer abandoned these here. However, we are not ruling out any possibilities,” SSP Singh told reporters.
The police have called in an army team for further investigation to determine the source and nature of the recovered ammunition.
This discovery comes amid past incidents of security concerns in Punjab. In December 2022, a rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) attack was carried out at a police station in Tarn Taran district, nearly 200 kilometers from Patiala. That incident occurred seven months after another RPG attack targeted the Punjab Police's intelligence headquarters in Mohali.
Authorities have intensified security measures in the region as investigations continue.
