Nabanna Abhijan protest: Protest called by student organization demands resignation of West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee over RG Kar Hospital incident

August 27, 2024: Ahead of a ‘Nabanna Abhijan’ protest by a new student outfit, Paschimbanga Chhatra Samaj, to the state secretariat demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over the RG Kar Hospital rape-murder case. More than 6000 Kolkata police personnel have been deployed I the city and security has been tightened near Mamata Banerjee’s Kalighat residence.



Four people have been arrested for planning to orchestrate large scale violence during the Nabanna Abhijan, Kolkata police said in a post on X.



To control the protestors, the check gates at the rear of Fort William at Hastings, being greased by civic workers.



The police have also deployed vajra vehicles, water cannons, and Riot Control force in the area while containers were places to block the roads.
