January 9, 2024: Music Maestro Ustad Rashid Khan passed away on Tuesday at the age of 55 due to deteriorated health condition. The renowned Singer is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter.



Ustad Rashid was undergoing treatment for prostate cancer at a hospital in Kolkata. He had been on oxygen support and ventilation at the ICU. His condition had deteriorated following a cerebral attack in December.



Taking to X, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said, “Deeply saddened by the tragic demise of Ustad Rashid Khan, one of the greatest exponents of Indian classical music of our times. Ustad Rashid Khan got our highest civilian award Banga Bibhushan and our Sangeet Mahasamman too. He was attached to several of our State cultural bodies in advisory capacity.”
