March 21, 2024: The Election Commission of India on Thursday directed the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) to immediately stop sending ‘Viksit Bharat’ messages on WhatsApp.



The WhatsApp message from ‘Viksit Bharat Sampark’ has been making rounds seeking feedback and suggestions from the citizens, along with a letter from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.



The order has been directed as the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) is currently in force following the announcement of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

ECI has said that they have received several complaints of messages highlighting the government’s initiatives being delivered on the phones of citizens.



As per sources, the commission has also demanded a compliance report on the matter from the Ministry.
